Prescription Refills

All prescription refill requests require an office visit with a healthcare provider**. Supply your provider with an updated formulary list from your insurance company and remember to bring all of your current prescription medication bottles (with attached pharmacy labels) to each appointment. Before leaving the office, be sure you will have enough medication to last until your next scheduled appointment. In the event you need a refill before then, you will need to make an appointment with a provider or take advantage of our walk-in service.

* Please note that our walk-in service is not available for hospital follow-ups, controlled substance refills and the reviewing of test results; you must schedule an appointment with your provider to address these concerns.

**Exceptions are granted for Hospice and Nursing Home patients. Please see your healthcare provider for more information.

Prior Authorization for Prescriptions

Prior Authorizations for prescription medications require an office visit with a healthcare provider. To avoid the confusion of dealing with prior authorizations and additional office visits, it is very important that you supply us with a copy of your formulary (preferred medications your insurance plan will cover). Your insurance company will require prior authorization for any medication prescribed that is not listed on your formulary.

In the event a prior authorization is required, it is your responsibility to a) contact your insurance company to obtain an updated formulary and all appropriate paperwork, then b) schedule an appointment with one of our healthcare providers to fully understand all options available to you.

Due to the significant amount of time required to address prior authorization requests, an office visit is required; this assures that each patient receives the highest quality of medical care and allows you the opportunity to speak personally with a provider and ask questions.

Test Results

In order to ensure the confidentiality of your protected health information and to give you the time and attention you need from your healthcare provider, you will be asked to schedule a follow-up appointment to discuss your test results (including lab work). If your test results need to be discussed before your scheduled follow-up appointment, our office will contact you immediately.

After-hour Phone Triage Services

After-hours calls from patients are answered by our triage nurse for a nominal charge of $25. We are confident our patients consider the advice they receive during these calls worth the expense. Many insurance companies also provide nursing recommendations at no cost to the patient, and you may wish to first utilize that service before calling our after-hours line.

Improving Your Experience

Help us make all patients as comfortable as possible by following these policies:

In consideration of all patients with various allergies and illnesses, please refrain from wearing perfume and fragranced lotions while visiting SC Internal Medicine.

All cell phones should be turned off upon entering the waiting room. Cell phone discussions can disturb other patients and can interfere with timely and effective patient-provider communication.

Thank you for your understanding and kindness to your fellow patients.
